Chef Christopher Covelli Triumphs

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

On July 27th and 29th Chef Christopher Covelli competed in a record 2 Platinum Chef Events to benefit the ASIDFSC at the Florida Builder Appliances locations in Bonita Springs and West Palm Beach and took the title in each.

He narrowly beat out competitor Carlos Avella, of Cosimo’s Too! in Sarasota in a battle of scallops in Bonita Springs. Covelli and Avella have worked side by side on events for Cosimo’s Too! and Florida Builder Appliances in the past so it was an amiable battle. Each chef prepared 3 rounds of scrumptious looking treats for a panel of 4 judges (Yes, you heard right, 4!) using the secret ingredients of scallops and fresh mangoes.

After the victory Chef Covelli packed up his knives (pots/pans/seasonings/etc…) and headed over to West Palm Beach to compete again. The battle in West Palm beach hosted a new competitor for Covelli, Chef Frank Vivicue of the Latitudes Beach Cafe at the Harbor Beach Marriott. Vivicue was able to step in for Chef Ron Duprat who was unfortunately delayed on a flight at the time of battle. The secret ingredient unveiled was… shrimp! Vivicue put forward a valiant effort and the total scores were very close, but Covelli managed to triumph again.

We would like to thank all the chefs for their efforts in creating such a fun filled evening as well as our co-sponsor, Jenn-Air who provided the appliances the chefs used in battle and the fabulous emcee, Shemeka Wilson.
